long time ago my parents introduced me to the Kingston Trio. As a kid, I didn’t appreciate the lyrical subtleties of songs like ‘The Seine’ but I understood ‘The MTA Song’, recorded by them the year I was born. Well, I understood the humor of the song, not the politics behind it.
Fortunately for us, someone has done a nice write-up at Wikipedia which covers the details (except where to buy it, which we’ll handle right here.) Sadly, the Kingston Trio is largely forgotten today, despite their seminal role in paving the way for folks like the Beach Boys and Bob Dylan. But maybe we’ll get lucky and the remaining members will tour again, giving us all a glimpse of history.
